When I drive my Honda, and I park the car in a parking space at a store after a while if it's hot outside it will not start. I have to wait a little while or wait till sundown, to try to restart the car. Only then will the car start when it has cooled off somewhat outside. What can it be? Don't tell me, you live in a state that requires alcohol to be in every drop of gasoline. Your lawmakers were paid of by "big farm" lobbyists such as ADM. Not only do they require alcohol in the gasoline, they won't even mention that it's in there. Our cars are just as good and even better than many imports So buy American and support our own economy, not Korea's, Japan's or Germany's. Jaguar . How to Replace the Front Brakes in a 2000 Infiniti QX4The brake system on the 2000 Infiniti QX4 automobile uses drum-style rear brakes and disc front brakes. The disc brakes use two pads on each brake assembly to press on a flat rotor, creating friction that stops the vehicle. As you use the brakes, the pads slowly wear away. Once they become too thin, a piece of metal will rub against the rotor when you depress the brake pedal, causing a squealing sound. When you hear this squeal, it's time to replace the brake pads. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Lug nut wrench Car jack 2 jack stands Brake cleaner Pan Socket set Large C-clamp Syringe Short piece of wire Replacement pads and shims High-temperature grease Brake fluid Step by Step : 1 Clean the master cylinder reservoir and remove the cap. This is the clear plastic tank on the driver's side of the engine compartment, close to the firewall. 2 Loosen the lug nuts on both front wheels. Raise the car with the jack and support it by placing a jack stand on each side. Remove the lug nuts and take off both front wheels. 3 Clean the front brake assemblies by spraying them with brake cleaner. Put a pan under the brakes to catch dripping cleaner fluid. The purpose of this is to remove dust generated by the worn pads, which is harmful to inhale. 4 Use a socket wrench to remove the lower pin bolt from the backside of the cylinder housing. Rotate the housing up off the rotor and secure it in place using a piece of wire. 5 Remove the brake pad retainers from the top and bottom of both pads. These are the flat, metal springs that hold the pads in place. 6 Prepare the new pads by coating the backs of the pads with high-temperature grease. The new pads should come with a small tube of this grease. Place the new shims on the backs of the pads and coat the backs of the shims with grease also. 7 Use the C-clamp to push the two pistons back into the cylinder. This is necessary, since the new pads will be considerably thicker than the old ones. Have an assistant monitor the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir to ensure it doesn't overflow. If it looks like it's going to overflow before you get the pistons pushed in, use a syringe or similar item to remove some of the brake fluid. 8 Place the new pads into the cylinder housing and secure them with the top and bottom pad retainers. 9 Rotate the cylinder back onto the rotor. Replace the lower pin and use a torque wrench to tighten it to between 24 to 31 foot-pounds of torque. Repeat the procedure on the other brake assembly. Step by Step : 10 Replace the wheels and lug nuts and lower the vehicle. Check the brake fluid level in the cylinder and add clean fluid if the level doesn't reach the "Full" mark on the side of the reservoir. Tips & Warnings Inspect the rotors while you have the wheels off. If you waited too long to replace the pads, the rotors might be damaged. If you see grooves cut into the rotors, you need to take them to a machine shop or garage for repair. Avoid pressing the brake pedal while the cylinder housing is off the rotor. Doing so will force the pistons out of the cylinders.
Jaguar . How to Remove the Front Brake on a 2005 ColoradoThe Colorado is a mid-size pickup made by Chevrolet. Removing the front brakes on the Colorado is not difficult. The brake pads make contact with the rotors to slow the Colorado and stop it. The friction between them is what wears your brake pads down. There is no definitive way to say how long a set of brake pads will last on your truck. The length of time they will last is relative to how much you use them. It does not take more than 30 minutes to remove a set of brake pads. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Lug wrench Automobile jack Jack stand Wheel chocks Drain pan Turkey baster Socket set Step by Step : 1 Open the hood, and drain enough brake fluid from the master cylinder with the turkey baster so that the level is half-way between the minimum and maximum. Place the fluid in the drain pan for recycling. 2 Place the wheel chocks behind the rear wheels. Jack the Colorado up with the automobile jack. Place a jack stand under the truck, and raise it to the frame. Remove the lug nuts from the wheel using the lug wrench. Pull the wheel off the truck. 3 Place a C-clamp over the caliper with the front pad at the front jaw and the caliper at the back jaw. Tighten it until it forces the caliper piston back into the housing. Remove the caliper from the mounting bracket using a socket and ratchet. Unclip the retaining clips from the brake pads by pulling them off. Pull the brake pads off the caliper. Tips & Warnings Do not allow the brake caliper to hang by the hose, or you will stretch and damage it. The dust created by brake pads as they wear may contain asbestos fibers. Avoid breathing in the dust and wash your hands thoroughly when the project is complete. If something sounds funny or smells funny or just doesn't feel right, you'll soon sense it. This can help you forestall expensive repairs, because you'll be able to prevent trouble or catch it before it becomes a major problem. This chapter shows you how to use your eyes, ears, and nose to sense automotive symptoms, and how to deal with those symptoms. The words in special type are defined in the Practical Glossary of Automotive Terms at the end of this book. Sounds You probably know how your vehicle sounds when it's running properly, and your ears can alert you to anything that sounds strange. Well, listen to your ears! If you hear a strange or different sound, pay attention to it and react accordingly. Part '^: Dealing with On-the-Road Emergencies v0 If a fan belt or accessory belt "sings" (makes a continuous, high-pitched sound), readjust or replace it. These belts should have at least half an inch of play and shouldn't be frayed, cracked, or glazed on the underside. Some belts tend to sing more than others. Rubbing a bit of petroleum jelly on the undersides of these belts usually quiets them down. You can find instructions for adjusting and replacing belts in Chapter 14. Don't drive with a broken fan belt. If you carry a spare belt or an old belt in the trunk, you may be able to save yourself towing charges. v* If your radiator "sings" (similar sound, different tune), check the radiator pressure cap. The rubber gasket may be worn, and steam from the hot engine may be escaping past it. Chapter 14 tells you how to remove a radiator cap safely. *^ If your tires squeal on curves — and you aren't speeding — check their inflation pressure, treads, and alignment by using the instructions in Chapter 19. Jaguar . Does carmax sell 5000 cars?
Geo Storm. * e" If you hear a whining or humming sounds on curves, your wheel bearings may be wearing. Chapter 18 turns you on to the sensual thrill of repacking them with your bare hands. *> If your tires "tramp" (make a weird, rhythmic sound as you drive), check inflation, tire wear, and wheel balancing (see Chapter 18). v0 If you hear squealing when you step on the brake, you've probably worn the brake pads down too far. Get them replaced immediately. Some disc brakes are naturally noisy, but if the sound gets louder, take heed. j> If something ticks rhythmically while your engine idles, shut off the engine, wait ten minutes, and then check the oil level. The hydraulic lifters that operate the valves in your engine can make these noises if you're down as little as a quart of oil. If the level is low, add oil up to the "Full" line on the dipstick and check again in a couple of days. If you have enough oil, have a mechanic check the valve adjustment if your car has adjustable valves (some don't). Faulty valves can seriously affect your car's performance and fuel consumption. e* If you hear a loud knocking sound in your engine, pull to the side of the road immediately and call for road service. It may be just a loose rocker arm or carbon buildup inside the engine, but if it's a loose bearing or a faulty piston, letting it go unheeded can destroy the whole engine. Mild knocking or "pinging" may be the result of using fuel with the wrong octane rating. Check your owner's manual to see whether your vehicle needs low-octane or premium gas. . This condition is often due to using fuel with too high an octane rating, but a tank of inferior gas or an idle speed that's set to high may also be the culprit. * If you hear rumbling noises coming from under or toward the rear of the vehicle, the trouble could be a defective exhaust pipe, muffler, or catalytic converter; or it could be coming from a worn universal joint or some other part of the drive train. Have a service facility put the car up on a hoist and find the problem. If you hear clunking under your vehicle, especially when you go over a bump, check the shock absorbers and suspension system. If it's toward the rear, your tailpipe or muffler may be loose. * If you hear a whistling noise coming from under the hood, check the hoses for vacuum leaks. If the whistling comes from inside the vehicle, there's probably a leak in the weather-stripping. Patch the weather- Jaguar . Where is the oldest working steam locomotive?
